Electrically Qualified Solar PV Installer Department:
Installation / Operations Reports To: Project Manager or Operations Director L
ocation: Unit 6, Murray Business Centre, Murray Road, Orpington, Kent BR5 3RE as base Location but will be required to travel to site Contract Type: Permanent / Full-Time
Purpose of the Role
To carry out the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of new build solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with relevant industry regulations and internal standards. The successful candidate will be a qualified electrician with experience in renewable technologies, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery of PV installations.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out full electrical installation of solar PV systems including inverters, battery storage, and associated components.

Interpret electrical and solar PV system designs, layout drawings, and specifications.

Undertake inspection, testing, and commissioning of new PV systems and complete associated certification for MCS, DNO notifications.

Ensure compliance with current wiring regulations (BS7671) and relevant industry standards (MCS, NICEIC, IET Code of Practice).

Work safely at height, ensuring all work complies with company Health & Safety policies and procedures, including RAMS and PPE usage.

Collaborate with roofers and other team members to ensure installations are completed efficiently and to specification.

Diagnose and rectify faults on existing solar PV systems, including inverter replacements, monitoring issues, and electrical component failures.

Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used via digital systems.

Liaise with clients professionally and respectfully on-site, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
Key Skills & Experience

Proven experience in electrical installation, including 1st and 2nd fix, testing, and fault finding.

At least 1 year of experience installing solar PV systems (domestic or commercial).

Strong understanding of DC and AC systems, grid-tied inverters, and battery storage.

Comfortable working at height with appropriate awareness of roofing materials and fixings.

Competent in interpreting electrical schematics and layout drawings.

Essential Qualifications

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (or equivalent time-served electrician status).

18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671:2018 + A2:2022).

Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems (City & Guilds 2399-13/14 or equivalent).

AM2/SJIB Gold Card or ECS card (Electrician or Approved Electrician grade).

CSCS or ECS Health & Safety certification.

Working at Height training and relevant H&S awareness (IPAF, PASMA, Manual Handling – desirable).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience

2391-52 (or 2391-50 / 51) – Inspection & Testing of Electrical Installations.

Battery storage qualifications (e.g., G98/G99 awareness, Level 3 Battery Storage course).

Experience with solar PV monitoring systems and platforms

Experience working in MCS-accredited installations.
Additional Requirements

Full UK driving licence (essential).

Flexibility to travel to various sites, including early starts and occasional overnight stays.

Must be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and on rooftops in varying weather conditions.

Strong commitment to Health & Safety and quality standards.
